Special Game 'C' in Your Ticket Books - DC United vs CD Guadalajara

Tonight DC United welcomes CD Guadalajara to RFK Stadium for the first game in a home and home series for the right to advance to the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana. Tonight's game is a late start. Kickoff is at 8:30 PM. United should have everyone available and with the playoff berth secured and bottom feeder Toronto coming to town on Saturday, there is no reason why United won't play their best roster tonight. I expect the starting eleven to be Moreno, Emilio, Fred, Gomez, Olsen, Simms, Burch, Namoff, Vanney, McTavish, and Perkins. Boswell, Carroll, and Gros should be the subs if necessary.

Prediction:

DC United 2:1 CD Guadalajara

This scoreline was well called.

Don't you think it's interesting that Chivas don't travel well despite being guaranteed a level of support that rivals their home games? Despite DC's current supremacy at RFK, we're at zero wins in Jalisco.

I think that's what we have to work on now that we seem to be able to rise to this type of occasion at RFK. I'd like to see players brought in that have experience quieting down hostile crowds and environments by taking numerous chances quickly when we're away and then shutting up shop in the midfield 40 by passing and holding onto the ball.

The second half last night played out like some medieval seige with wave after wave of Goat attack only for United to turn the ball over to them and set them back into attack again. Gutting that out is not always going to work at home and hardly ever away.

At the game, the discussion after the red card was trying to figure out what subs to make to protect the one goal lead. I was in favor of a Boswell for Moreno move with McTavish moving to midfield. My friend was in favor of Gros for Emilio. I think the moves made were defendable. And in this area, there are always going to be games where fans come in from up and down the coast and pack the stadium. I saw cars from New Jersey, New York and North Carolina. I think it's great and United seems to thrive on it.
